A Christmas Winter Wonderland

Winter Wonderland Christmas Party Marriott Tudor Park Golf & Country Club

We were delighted in November to be invited by Kent business KEF to style their combined Christmas and 50th anniversary party.

The party was held in the Bearstead suite and adjoining marquee at the Marriott Tudor Park Golf & Country Club, near Maidstone in Kent.

Snowy the snowman welcomed guests to the Bearstead suite.

A giant ice sculpture provided by Icework of one of KEF's magnificent speakers was the focal point of the celebration and so a winter wonderland theme was the order of the day.

We placed waterproof led lights in the base to bring the light through the sculpture

and the whole corner was lit by blue up lighters.

The drinks reception and disco was held in the Bearstead Suite. We draped the walls in white fabric, with a star cloth behind the DJ and placed blue up lighters around the room.

The ceiling was quite low, so we hung some small snowflakes and glittered stars. We framed the entrance to the marquee with a pair of 6 foot tall glittered birch branched made into trees, dressed with lights, snowflakes and icicles. White linen and our fitted chair covers completed the look.

The main banquet was held in the adjoining marquee. The marquee already has a fabulous lining so no draping was required, but plenty of blue up lighters ensured the theme was carries through.

We dressed the beautiful pitched roof of the marquee with giant glittered snow flakes & stars which created a cosy and intimate feeling.

For the centrepieces, we decided to keep the arrangements below the hanging snowflakes and stars low. We used large globe vases (fish bowl vases) and filled them with glittery white and silver baubles "crushed ice" and lots of snowflake lights. They were then set on a LED light base.

On the tables around the edges we went tall again with table centrepieces made with the glittery birch branches to compliment the arrangements in the Bearstead Suite. These of course were finished with hanging snowflakes, icicles and blue LED lights we nestled in the mirrored cube vases to light up the displays.

Sneak Peak - Daily Mail Christmas Styling Feature

We were delighted to pitch up at the Ramada Jarvis at Tunbridge Wells last week for their spring wedding fair.

Planning Weddings Leaves Little Time To Post

Little more than a year I go I posted a message stating that I could not believe it was nearly the middle of February and I had not blogged.
Well in 2011 I have surpassed myself by being two weeks later with my first post of theyear!
I have to say 2010 turned out to be much busier than I had anticipated.
I am pleased that my lack of blogging is and was due to being busy and although update blog is always on the 'to do' list, it always ends up at the bottom of the shuffle.

I would love to comit to a weekly post, but I fear it may go the same way as the commitment to a new year diet did on Valentine's Day. So I will tentatively commit to a monthly post and anything in between is a bonus!

To post about the last six months would probably take the next six months, so I shall paraphrase in pictures.
We are lucky enough to work at all sorts of exciting and interesting venues; castles, stately homes, marquees and village halls have all had the Classic Events treatment this year.

Neil & Rogers' Civil Partnership was always going to be a theatrical affair.

Neil works in the theatre and the couple met during a production of the York Realist it was only right that their love of theatre would feature on their wedding day.

So the theme was set....

For one day only guests were invited to a production of 'The Grooms'

The invitations were tickets, the order of service were programmes, and the day was divided into acts.

Black Baccara and Vandella roses were the main flowers in the buttonholes, corsgages and decorations.

May the 4th be with you

Of course I know he's my son when he plans his birthday party around a date. No not his actual birthday, not the nearest Saturday, but a full two and half weeks after his forthcoming birthday, my son decides is the date for the party. May 4th. Nothing special about that until he announces he has chosen this date and wants me to design his invitations to say "May the 4th be with you" This of course will be a Star Wars themed party and I celebrate that at the grand age of seven my protege is born.

This involved costumes, lighting, games and food all apropriately themed to delight the discerning rising 7's of Kent. Master of ceremonies Obe Wan Kenobe tutored the young Jedi Padawan with lightsaber practice. In these modern days 30 little ones welding weapons would send many a parent hot footing it for the health and safety manual, so I found myself spray painting foam pipe insulation which turned out to be the perfect prop when teamed with balloons for playing Remote (I will not explain further, but suffice to say ask any focused Padawan and they will explain)

I also turned my hand to making a suitable birthday cake (Oh why do I put myself through this when my little black book has many talented cake makers numbers listed). Again for simplicity the lightsaber was my saviour and although to a professional, my effort is rather maladroit, as a mother I was happy with my work.

With a seemingly endless supply of Star Wars themed party goods it was easy to accessorise and some brown curtain lining with sash cord provided inexpensive jedi robes for the children.

My darling son has already advised me his next theme will be Dr Who..........

I shall finish with a big thank you to Emma & Lily at Say It With Chocoalte for their help with our thank you's. With a moments notice they whipped together some fabulous chocolate bars to say thank you to our friends & and; family. Great work ladies.

Spring into Summer

April & May positively flew by with weddings and parties galore which saw us at Cooling Castle Barns (twice), Rowhill Grange, The Hilton at the Dartford Crossing, Great Fosters, Sevenoaks Holiday Inn, the Marriott Bexleyheath, Dorton House (three times) the Tudor Marriott in Maidstone and Sundridge Park. Burgundy was certainly the colour of the month with it making an appearance five times, with various shades of pink & green following a closely behind.

We were also delighted to style a wonderful Breakfast at Tiffany's themed surprise 40th birthday party, a Christening and garden party for beautiful twin girls as well as my most irrefutable client's (my son) 7th birthday party, but more of that to come.

We were also honoured to be invited to the annual service of thanks for service to the community by the Lord Lieutenant of Kent

We try to work hard within our community and for local charities so an acknowledgement for our time and efforts is much apreciated.

Of course much of the talk and worries were due to the ash cloud stopping air travel in and out of the UK. Guests had to cancel at short notice and one of our brides had a stranded bridesmaid that was unable to make the day. With stranded guests, postponed honeymoons and a stag weekend hastily relocated from Prague to Dublin we were called upon a few times to help with last minute changes of plan. Usually reserved for corporate events, a projector, screen & dvd player at two of our weddings allowed a for few good will messages from guests that could not make the day.

Winter Sparkle at Cooling Castle Barns

A touch of late winter sparkle was the order of the day in what turned out to be an unseasonably warm day in early March at Cooling Castle Barns in Rochester, Kent. Fairy lights around the beams, E-luminator bases lighting up the tables, diamante buckles on the chair sash bows and a scattering of table crystals added the sparkle and glamour to the elegant lily vase arrangements and navy blue sashes.

I was aware I had a slightly anxious bride, when her aunt kept popping in and providing mobile 'phone updates as to how it was all coming along. The day went smoothly and I was delighted to receive the following thank you:

"I wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you did decorating our venue for our Wedding Day. It looked absolutely stunning! We were totally amazed by it all and even more so were our guests! We had some lovely feedback following the big day and several people have asked for your contact details as you both did such a lovely job."
Well thank you Claire, you and Darren were a pleasure to work for and I wish you both every happiness.

Well I cannot believe that it is nearly the middle of February and this is my first post of the year!

I guess the snow, Christmas, family and a very busy start to the new year have taken their toll on my ability to tell you all about it! The snow gave us a few challenges, one bride called upon our services for decorating her venue, when her original company got stuck. they made it eventually, but it was all hands to the pump and between us everything looked stunning. One of our brides who had booked on the day co-ordination from us certainly made us earn our money. Most of her guests were either travelling from the Midlands or flying in from Europe while 90% of Britain was under a blanket of snow. Unfortunately (but probably sensibly) a couple of guests decided to stay at home, but we managed to juggle travel arrangements and everyone else managed to get there. One of my most genuine thank yous was from the brides grandmother when I provided her with a blanket and a hot chocolate from my flask. (Please note this service is not normally available). My beloved husband always advises to keep a shovel, torch and broom in the car, bless him, he looks so smug when he is right. My essential tips guide now includes a section for winter brides. When booking wedding cars, make sure the company has access to four wheel drive vehicles in case of bad weather. Better to get to your wedding in not so perfect 4WD than not at all. The rest of the Christmas season was busy with parties etc and new year saw me sorting out my McKay's from my McLean's as a Burns Night celebration requested some very special tartan decorations. Our wedding year kicked off last week with a busy weekend of two weddings one at the gorgeous Hempstead House and the other at the forever popular but fantastic Cooling Castle Barns where all thinks pink and black were the order of the day.

Celebrity Style

Celebrity weddings are a popular soucre of inspiration and entertainment for many brides to be (and us wedding planners too!).

The wedding last Sunday of Take That band member Mark Owen to actress Emma Ferguson was certainly not short on style. The sight of the band swaggering around the corner of Cawdor Parish Church certainly cheered up this thirty somethings day! The beautiful Emma and her bridesmaids all looked stunning and were the picture of vintage elegance.

I have been lucky enough to meet the band a number of times when I was Banqueting Manager at the Royal Albert Hall. An extremely likable bunch.

Congratulations Mark & Emma, I wish you every happiness.

Another celebrity turning the heads of brides to be recently, but not at a wedding was Cheryl Cole on the X Factor. She looked very bride like in a grecian style Atelier Versace gown and wore a stunning Jenny Packham Acacia II headband. A great loo and one I am sure that will become very popular.

I'm starting to realise that blogging is quite a commitment. Of course when I have something interesting and exciting to post is when I am incredibly busy doing those things and cannot spare a moment to post. Posting about it some 2, 3 or even 4 weeks later, does not seem quite so much fun. The reality is I should not be typing this now. I should be at Nizels Golf and Country club in Sevenoaks setting up a wedding reception for one of our lovely brides getting married tomorrow. an ear infection means I have completely lost my balance and can barely stand up let alone drive. So here I am wrapped up in a snug tartan blanket with a mug of hot chocolate in hand, while my wonderful business partner will no doubt be working into the wee small hours all alone. I do feel incredibly guilty and the control freak in me is itching to keep phoning for an update, so a bit of blogging is proving a useful distraction. I have already decided that as my husband has to take our son to swimming lessons in the morning and Nizel's is only a 3 mile detour, I shall get a lift down there to make sure the finishing touches are done and all is perfect. Good luck Katie and John, I hope your day is perfect. Autumn is a strange time for those of us working in the wedding and events business. Still busy with weddings, wedding fairs most weekends into September, October and now November and the need to start working on Christmas projects before the clocks even go back can be a tad confusing to those of us with seasonal sensibilities. I promise you it is mighty frustrating when you cannot get hold of black glitter baubles in the middle of September! Enough of Christmas for now, I shall try and find some of pictures of our summer delights and autumn treats.

Well I can hardly believe that almost two months have passed since my last post, that this almost feels like one of those end of year catch up letters. So much has been happening, I don't know where to begin! It's good we have had a busy summer, there has hardly been time to breathe. We have been very lucky to work on some wonderful and beautiful weddings. From an intimate barn wedding for 45, to a grand country mansion affair for 165. All the weddings were punctuated by a charity ball for CHASE children's charity http://www.chasecare.org.uk/ held at beautiful Preston Cross Hotel in Bookham, Surrey. We were delighted to dress the venue featuring the CHASE colour pink. Music was provided by Five Star Swing and a charity auction included an autographed suit donated by Jonathon Ross. The event was a great success and raised £3,000 for the charity. The wedding fair season is upon us and we are exhibiting at shows in Kent at the Maidstone Hilton on Sunday September 20th, 2009 and the Dartford Hilton on September 27th, 2009. Now as you can see the cupcakes were made and were eaten, so all good there. I did rather enjoy making them , although I will not be entering the business of cake making, I will leave that to the professionals.

This week we are working with a couple having a village fete style wedding. As well as beating the sunshine drums for them; we have set up a fine marquee dressed with bunting and chair covers with pink and sage sashes, lots of lanterns and their florist has provided some fantastic flowers. The team have also been busy making beautiful favours. Kent honey with honey stirrers tied on with ribbon for the adults and Pooh Bear with honeypot ornaments for the children as well as lots of mini bug chocolates. Pictures of the honey favours to follow. Again beautiful and a perfect country vintage wedding theme, best wishes to Sarah and Mark tomorrow, may the sun shine on your wedding and your life together!

Don't you just love the martini vase flower arrangement below. We did it for a wedding two years ago and it still has to be on one of my favourites. Sunflowers do not feature that often in table center arrangements (or limes for that matter!) Now there are some things I am good at, some things I am not. Then there are the things I really wish I was good at. Today I am making cupcakes for the end of term party. Now being regarded as a creative type people often have high expectations of my ability, lets hope I do not let them down. In my world I get to meet lots of lovely cake makers and I have considered calling in a favour and cheating. But, In the spirit of motherhood I shall be entering the kitchen, first to make a coffee, then to contemplate the cupcake challenge.................

I am loving the Vintage Tea Party so many of our Brides are choosing for this year. Pale green and pink is very popular, linen and lace everywhere. I just hope we have a gorgeous summer to do the look justice.

Hello Everyone This is my first blogging post. I have been having a hectic few days in search of accomodation for a function that clashes in terms of location and dates with a major sporting event, not a bed to be found, but i think I have just about managed to find places for everyone. Have also spent half the day in the rain looking measuring to see if a marquee will fit onto a site without having to cut away a magnolia tree. The busy season is just starting in terms of weddings and with so many also happening on Fridays, Sundays as well as Saturdays, I have a busy few months ahead.
